The Royal British Legion was formed in 1921, at the Queen's Hall, London, to give practical help and companionship to ex-servicemen of the First World War. The Bishops Stortford Branch was formed in the same year and the current premises purchased in 1948.
This fine 19th century property is still used for its original purpose for Club and Branch Meetings, a base for the annual Poppy Appeal, and fund raising through its thriving social section, all in support of the Royal British Legion charity.
The Bishops Stortford Royal British Legion had a branch membership of 950 at its peak in 1958 but the number currently stands at nearly 500. The well stocked Club bar is managed by Steward, Cathy O'Neill. For opening times please go to the 'Location' page.
The club bar offers attractive prices, a comfortable lounge and TV room, snooker, pool and darts facilities and a spacious attractive garden. Regular social events, a Pool section, live music, an annual beer festival and many other festivities fill the calendar. Our extensive premises and garden are also available for private functions such as weddings, christenings etc., and we currently have office space available for rent.
